Quiet location, bad service, small rooms
When we arrived, the owners did not know we were coming. When we showed them the booking.com app with our details, they complained that we had a price that was cheaper than what they are advertising now. We only booked the room a week prior to the stay. The owner then took us to a room we did not book that must have been 3m x 3m in size, a window the side of a small suitcase. (We booked a deluxe double with balcony and city view). We were then begrudgingly taken to a more suitable room with a city view. The "balcony" was just big enough to fit one of my running shoes sideways.
When we were shown to our room, the owner explained that was they were not making any money from our stay, we were to make sure all lights and air conditioning was off when we left the room - a fair enough point but did they really need to explain that they weren't making money out of us? To add to this, they remarked that they are going to check our room to make sure we cooperated with their demands.
Every time the owners saw my Vietnamese wife, they asked how long I had been in Vietnam for. They were concerned that I might bring Covid to them. We explained every time that I have lived her for 4 years but both owners never stopped asking.
They arranged a motorbike for us very quickly and it was a good machine. One owner tried to give us the cheapest weakest bike but the other owners knew we intended to go up a mountain and he gave us a decent bike. This was the shining light of their customer service.
The male owner never smiled until we told him that we were checking out one day early. His face literally brightened. My wife had a bad feeling about the whole experience from the beginning to the end of the shortened two day stay.
The hotel lost a bi of extra revenue from us because we wanted to do laundry and to buy some food / water from them but no one could be found when we wanted them. The front desk is empty and never manned. We saw someone on the ground floor that was possibly their son. He was always polite and helpful when we saw him but often he just asked us to wait for the owners. (He may not have actually been their son, not sure).
The location is in a quiet area, not near to the beach but convenient for getting to the main road for the dragon bridge. We spent a lot of time over the river this holiday so it was god for that. Lots of little coffee shops nearby and quiet streets for running / walking at any time of day.
