Well located, super tasty, modern comfort with small drawbacks
The New Wave is a modern boutique hotel with an attached restaurant, Octopusssy, close to the beach. I was very pleased to find innovative design on the more traditional Norderney. My room was also well designed and quite spacious. Coffee, tea and milk were available in a small service station, but unfortunately they were not refilled by room service. With a minimum stay of 4 nights, 3 tea bags are a bit few. The reception was warm and the staff always very friendly and helpful.
The standard of the Octopussy is particularly great. The breakfast buffet is definitely worth it and can be enjoyed for quite a long time. The dinner was so delicious and sophisticated that I ate there twice. The wine list and the single barrel Negroni, which was matured in a wooden barrel, also convinced me.
I also loved the roof terrace (unfortunately not open all the time) for chilling out and looking out at the sea. I liked using the comfortable seating to browse or for a sand-free sundowner. The free yoga class was a great extra!
There were a few small things I didn't like so much: I couldn't pay the tourist tax directly at the hotel. The room doors are hard to close, which always makes a big bang when someone comes or goes. I would have liked a slightly softer locking mechanism here. The awning on the roof terrace made eerie noises in unfavorable wind conditions (and it's often windy on the island), which could be heard in my room on the 3rd floor (and on the whole floor). This was quickly remedied, but the next day the awning and the annoying noises were back. If you are sensitive to noise, you should choose a different floor.
There are 6 branded bicycles in the courtyard (also on the website). However, they don't seem to be looked after and I couldn't use them. That's what I expect from modern hotels, especially when they are advertised on the website.
All in all, I felt comfortable and would be happy to come back. The accompanying culinary program this year would be a good reason!

Nice hotel / Great service in restaurant
We stayed over an extended weekend at NewWave.
The location and decor of the hotel are great. There is a small tea & coffee station in the room and to welcome there was a small kitchenette.
The service and breakfast were great. (The fact that the bread was not refilled at 10.00 o'clock was semi but due to the selection to suffer)
Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi in the room hardly worked at all. Despite changing the repeater, no improvement.
The flushing of the toilet has been “rinsed” again about 2-3 minutes after flushing and had to be stopped manually.
The room door does not close and must be pressed shut or closed again with all force.
Both are well-known problems that probably cannot be fixed on demand.
These are certainly “little things” but with the price I honestly can’t understand.

Bar remains well below its potential
Looking for a nice cocktail bar, we ended up here. The location directly on the roof terrace was very nice. Otherwise we did not like it so much: half a dozen apparently unaccompanied (?) Kids were raging on one side and blathering around and there was only one man who apparently was supposed to run the whole place. Far too little. We sat for a few minutes while he rushed past us to clear tables on the other side. I don't blame him. It was better that way, we then went and found a bar for adults. You can't do it all right, that's for sure, but here I think they made the wrong decision with their mix of playground and cocktail bar.
The small selection of appropriate bottles also raises the question of how much choice one would have had at all; but this is speculation.

Second time New Wave…
The second time at the New Wave, first visit in February 2024, now again in June as a couple. Basically everything was OK, just minor things. Arrival at 12 noon, rooms were understandably not ready yet, but then had to wait until 3.20 p.m. That was a bit long. Rooms were OK. Welcome cakes as a nice gesture. Unfortunately, the drinks in the fridge are not refilled after the first day. The hotel's own bicycles, which you can rent according to the website, were unfortunately not available at the moment, the next day, unfortunately not possible at the moment. A shame. Breakfast extensive, coffee machine would make things a lot easier, including for the staff. Mini portion of scrambled eggs, but you can reorder. Price per breakfast and per person € 21, which is then added to the overnight price of € 200 per night and double room. That's actually € 242 per night including breakfast. Not exactly a small amount. On the other hand, the staff give me a very unmotivated impression in some places (see bicycle). To mark the European Championships, they advertised the hotel's roof terrace and the Germany match. Unfortunately, two hours before the match, nothing had been prepared. When I asked if they would show it on a TV or screen, I got a tired "on TV" as a reply. When I asked if there were snacks, I was told that you could eat in the restaurant. I think they could do more with that. That's a shame. Unfortunately, our room was in an unfortunate location by a door to the hallway, which slammed shut quite loudly. Anything else? Good location, very central. Modern style. Very clean in the hotel. Bus stop right around the corner.

Modern, harmonious, but almost analogue
Nice rooms, high quality furnishings. Staff is friendly, you are greeted with a hot drink. An open shower in the room is not my style, and you can forget about WiFi. The price for breakfast is a bit too high in my opinion.
