Romantic Lake Louise trip.

Mu husband and I spent 4 amazing nights at the Post hotel in Lake Louise. It was our first visit and it exceeded our expectations. We will definitely return. Here's what we loved: 1) amazing service! 2) the wood burning fireplace in our room! We loved having an evening fire with a glass of wine 3) fabulous dining. My favourite was the Fondue Restaurant (The Stubli) 4) Excellent spa and pool/hot tub 5) The ski shuttle was excellent. We never had to wait and we loved being greeted with a complimentary tea/coffee service in the lobby at the end of each ski day.
The room does not come with a fridge, so I requested a small bar fridge so I could keep some food items cool during our stay. That was very appreciated.
We were sad to leave, but we'll be back.
Tip: Pick a room NOT facing the parking lot if you want an amazing view of the mountains. We had room 305. We had beautiful sunrises every day. We did not hear any train noise.

Fantastic in every way!

We travel extensively and like to stay in very nice places when we take our cherished family vacays. This place was no exception. No, it is not outdated. It feels and looks exactly the way it’s supposed to - an upscale lodge in a gorgeous setting. The furnishings are not new or pristine. They are also not old and falling apart. Everything is well maintained and looks well lived and taken care of.
We stayed at a king loft with two twin beds and bathroom upstairs. Perfect for our family of 4. Sitting area with fireplace and small balcony. We heard the trains a few times but this did not bother us. The winter landscape was breathtaking!
The service was top notch and impeccable. Maybe breakfast could have used more staff but this was not a huge problem. The food and drinks were stellar. We ate at the dining room, bar, and their pub. All with great service and even better food.
There are great trails right outside the hotel that run along the river - frozen this time of year and absolutely gorgeous.
Family went skiing and the shuttle service was great. They also took us to Lake Louise - a quick ride. Went to lunch at the Fairmont and was infinitely glad to be going back to the charm and relaxed atmosphere of the Post.
Will most definitely go back…

Are there really any luxurious spa hotels in North America for skiing & with normal pricing?

After years of not posting and being fortunate to travel all over the world in 5 star resorts, I am finally writing another review.
I am a spoiled European luxury travel aficionado, huge ski buff & love ski in/out. And i like to stay only in 5 star hotels with a spa, saunas (plural!), steam rooms, pools and massages. And good food (!). I stay about 30-45 days/year in the top hotels for skiing in the world.
North America has the worst hotels and are the most ridiculously overpriced unfortunately.
After having stayed at the St. Regis in Aspen, Deer Valley, every Ritz Carlton near a ski resort, the Four Seasons in Whistler, Vail and Jackson Hole, The Little Nell, The Sebastian, The Montage, The Rimrock and the Fairmont Lake Louise as well as the Post Hotel (the standard is definitely a bit below these hotels), I believe that Europe and Japan have many far better and cheaper hotels. The buildings, rooms and accommodations are far nicer, they have much much better spas and don't even get me started on the food comparison. North America feels like a food desert when it comes to ski hotels. And of course, you don't pay the ludicrous extra fees like you do in anything US.
After having been to the Post Hotel twice over the last 15 years, I was excited to come again and prefer it to the Fairmont Lake Louise (which is maybe a 3 star according to my standards). I had thought the Post Hotel would at least be a solid 3.5 stars with good food and nice rustic accommodations and a friendly Canadian vibe.
Unfortunately, the hotel is now outdated, from the furniture to the room interiors and the "spa" (if you can call it that at all), everything looks nicely preserved in a time warp from the 90s/early 2000s. The hotel is still almost 50% cheaper than any US equivalents in ski areas but it needs a desperate refresh. And it needs much better food (in-room dining and in the restaurants) and a lot better facilities. The main stuffy outdated restaurant doesn't go with the cool Canadian Rockies vibe any longer.
Skiing in Lake Louise is still better than most "Epic" pass destinations and the views beat any US ski resort (Lake Tahoe, Telluride and Jackson Hole are exceptions) so that's why this is an ok destination (the ski resort itself is also very outdated though, same as most US resorts). But given the high cost for the hotel, all the extra costs (incl. air travel), staying in Europe or Japan is probably a better experience.
Unfortunately.
So where are the really nice luxurious ski hotels with real spas & good food in North America that aren't also USD $1,000/night (and much more)?
Please Post Hotel, renovate and live up to your potential.
Many international travelers would stay there then.

Comfortable and cosy (but not perfect)

We has stayed in Lake Louise many years ago at the Fairmont Lake Louise and we wanted to try another hotel. Whilst the Post Hotel & Spa cannot rival the Fairmont Lake Louise in terms of location and view, it is still a good choice for a comfortable stay. It is a very nice hotel but not everything is perfect. On the positive side, the hotel has a cosy feel, the staff was friendly, the swimming pool (indoor) is of decent size and the restaurant was very good (also nice to have free coffee at the reception in the morning - and tea in the afternoon). On the other hand, there are a few things that could be definitely improved. As a starter, and stating the obvious, the hotel is not on the Lake and to go the Lake one has to take the public shuttle (but the first one in the morning sees to leave after 9am) or drive up with one's own car but in peak touristic season the parking will easily be full by 7/8am, which means there are no real options between 7/8am and 9am+, which was when we wanted to start our day hike (we ended up walking up to Lake Louise which added a few kilometers to our 20km+ day hike). I found it quite surprising that the hotel would not organise its own shuttle service to Lake Louise (this should be a must have for a hotel of this standing - and I would expect a free shuttle). On the other hand, they do offer (but at a price) a shuttle service to Moraine Lake (need to book). That being said, the main letdown was the room - quite dated, small, tired carpets, a bit stuffy (no A/C - it was hot, we had to leave the balcony door open - luckily we were on the river side and not disturbed by trains), old-style bathroom etc. Also at the time of our stay the hotel only had two options for dinner - the gastronomic restaurant (as I said before, it was good - but please note it is a fixed price menu and one has to book in advance) or the bar. If you stay a few nights, you will probably want to go dine outside at least once.

Dear 182tanguym,
Thank you for sharing your detailed review with us. We are delighted that you enjoyed the cozy feel of the hotel, our friendly staff, and the swimming pool. It’s also great to hear that you appreciated the complimentary coffee and tea at the reception. We truly value your input and would like to address some of your comments.
We understand your concern about the shuttle service to Lake Louise. In fact, we do offer a free shuttle to Château Lake Louise, based on driver availability, which we believe provides a convenient alternative to parking, as private parking is subject to a fee. Additionally, we offer free shuttle service to the ski hill, with scheduled timings. We recognize the importance of transportation to the lake, and we’re actively exploring ways to improve this experience for our guests.
Regarding the shuttle to Moraine Lake, we do provide a service to this iconic destination, though it requires advance booking as the demand is very high, given the popularity of the location.
We also want to let you know that in addition to our pre-fixed menu, we offer a variety of à la carte options in our restaurant. We understand that a longer stay might make guests want more dining flexibility, and we aim to accommodate different preferences.
We sincerely apologize that the style of your room did not meet your expectations. The Post Hotel & Spa is known for its classic room design, but we do appreciate your feedback regarding the condition of the room. Rest assured, your comments are taken seriously, and we will look into the areas you mentioned, such as the carpets and bathroom style, to ensure we continue to improve our guest experience.
Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.
Warm regards,
Leonard Gutierrez
